The Ladies 1's have made through to the Quater Finals of BUCS PwC Cup 2011-2012. They face Sheffield Hallam 2's tomorrow (22nd Febuary) at the JLD, and are the only UYHC team to still be in the running. The ladies beat the Hallam 1st team 1-0 in an earlier round and will be hoping for a win in tomorrow's game.
It's a home game so let's get as many people as possible at the astro supporting the girls in this must-win game.
Push back at 2.00pm.
Men’s 1
BUCS: played 5: won 1 lost 4
Next BUCS fixture: Durham 2’s (25th January)
The boys are currently in 5th spot in BUCS League 2B and despite having faced some tough opposition from the likes of Northumbria 1’s and Durham 2’s, the team have only lost out by a handful of goals. The 1’s beat Sheffield 2’s to make it into the last 32 in BUCS Cup.
Yorkshire League: played 13: won 6, drawn 2, lost 5
Next Yorkshire League Fixture: Halifax 1’s (28th January)
The Men’s 1s are sitting in third place in the Premier Division of Yorkshire League.
What the Captain Says: Henry Meller
“After initially starting very well, the UYHC Mens 1st XI have struggled for consistency. The squad, individually, is one of the strongest I've seen at UYHC, and in the New Year I fully expect us to find some form and start getting big results come BUCS Wednesdays.”
Ladies 1
BUCS: played 5: won 4 lost 1
Next BUCS fixture: Leeds 3rds (25th January)
The girls have had a consistent season so far with only one loss in the last game of last term. They are currently top of BUCS League 3B with a massive goal difference, and have had a fantastic Cup run with wins against Sheffield Hallam 1's and Leeds Met 2's. They’re up against Durham 3's in the next round.
Yorkshire League: played 13: won 9 drawn 2 lost 2
Next Yorkshire League fixture: Leeds 2’s (21st January)
The 1’s are also top of Yorkshire League Division 1, but with other teams with games in hand, the next part of the season will be crucial if they are to be promoted into the Women’s Premier Division. The girls have a tough, must-win game this weekend against Leeds 2’s, so they’ll be hoping to take their first three points after Christmas.
What the Captains Say
Hannah Gage (BUCS)
“The Ladies 1’s aim for the second half of the season is to be promoted in BUCS, Yorkshire League, to win our Roses match and to continue our great Cup run. Our big upcoming matches are Durham 3’s and Leeds 3’s.”
Sally Warrington (Yorkshire League)
“Our challenge for the rest of the season will be maintaining a consistent performance; that's what has let us down a little in the first half of the season. Our biggest challengers are Harrogate, who are currently right behind us in the league and they have a game in hand.”
Men’s 2
BUCS: played 5: won 1 lost 4
Next BUCS Fixture: Leeds 5ths (25th January)
The 2s have faced some strong opposition in the first half of the season, but have lost out to the likes of Leeds Met 3s by only one goal. The boys were unlucky to be knocked out of BUCS Cup by Northumbria 3’s, whose 2nd team were beaten by the York side 3-2.
Yorkshire League: played 13: won 6 drawn 5 lost 2
Next Yorkshire League Fixture: Bradford University 1’s (21st January)
In second place in Yorkshire League Division 4, but will have to fight hard this second half of the season to maintain this position.
What the Captain Says: Alex Alonso
"Adapting to a new formation and several new (fresh) faces, the 2s this season have been steadily developing an understanding and improving our play as a unit. Dogged before Christmas by difficult away fixtures, we're now free to enjoy a host of home matches, both in BUCS (where we need to finish strongly) and Yorkshire League (where promotion - for the fourth year running - is very much on the cards). The chance to right some wrongs versus Teeside 1s at Fortress JLD will, I hope, prove a pre-Roses highlight."
Ladies 2
BUCS: played: won 2 drawn 0 lost 0
Next BUCS fixture: York St. John 2nd (8th February)
The 2’s are also on outstanding form in the two games which they have played, and the greatest goal difference out of all their opponents. They’ve got 2 games in hand and are only 4 points behind Leeds University 6ths, who will be the one to beat if the girls are to secure their well deserved promotion in BUCS League 5B. The girls were unfortunately knocked out of BUCS Cup in the first round by Durham 3's (8-0).
Yorkshire League: played 12: won 10 drawn 1 lost 1
Next Yorkshire League Fixture: Thirsk 2’s (28th January)
The girls have also been notching up strong performances in Yorkshire League, and are currently top of Division 6. Lincoln Roses are their main competition for the title but 29-0 victory against Hull University 3’s goes to show just what the girls are capable of.
What the Vice Captain Says: Anna Williamson
"After our great start to the season last term we are really pushing for promotion in both BUCS and Yorkshire League, both well within our reach given our current team and position in both leagues. As well as this, we are hoping for a repeat of our amazing win at Roses last year!"
Men’s 3
BUCS: played 4: won 2 lost 2
Next BUCS Fixture: Northumbria 3’s (25th January)
With the top 3 teams in Northern 3B tied on 7 points, the men are just one point behind in fourth. Thrashed Bradford 2nds 7-0 and Teeside 2nds 7-1 but suffered a loss by just one goal against Leeds Met 4ths in the final game of last term. In the first game back after Christmas (18th January), the boys repeated their win against Teeside 2’s, although with a slightly lower goal difference reflected in the 4-3 score.
Yorkshire League: played 10: won 5 drawn 3 lost 2
Next Yorkshire League Fixture: Bingley Bees 1’s (21st January)
Overall the 3’s have been consistent in Division 6 North, losing only two of their games so far, and currently occupying fourth place. Their next opponents are Bingley Bees 1’s – beaten 10-0 in the first leg – so the boys will be aiming for an even greater thrashing on the Bees home turf.
What the Captain Says: Jon Waghorne
“The challenge for the 3's in the second half of the season is to show a little more consistency and develop an on field composure that was at times lacking in the last half of the season. In both BUCS and Yorkshire League we are still in good positions to really attack the promotion places, and finish the season in the sort of position that a team of this calibre of players deserves. Especially important this term is to avenge the close losses from last term against Bradley and Halifax in Yorkshire League and Leeds Met in BUCS to give ourselves optimal chances of promotion. And let's not forget that we are the only team yet to win at Roses, something that will be a focus for us all later in the term....”
It's Wednesday Week 10: that can only mean that it's Port & Pies time.
Be at the pitch for 5pm or if you feel like supporting the Men's 3s and Ladies 1s, get down to the JLD now!
